[Bunkier Sztuki] is one of the most daring architectural projects carried out within the historical city centre, and one that to this day continues to arouse controversy among some of Krakow’s residents. The City Exhibition Pavilion was erected in 1959–1965 to a design by Krystyna Tołłoczko-Różyska and for several decades remained the only modern building located in the Old Town area. It was also the first exhibition facility in Poland to be built from scratch with a view to exhibiting contemporary art.
